John Elphinstone Erskine (1805-87) was a British naval officer who also wrote several accounts of his voyages around the Pacific. This 1853 book is his genial and affectionate narration of his visits to islands including Fiji and Samoa, describing the culture, religion and attitudes of the native populations.
