A new plates volume to accompany the four new parts of "The Cambridge Ancient History, Volumes I and II". The editors have selected many new as well as familiar subjects for illustration, and though contributors to the text volumes refer to these, the plates volume can also stand on its own.

In selecting the illustrations for this volume the main considerations have been to exemplify the material on which the arguments in the text are based and to show pieces of particular artistic or technical merit.
