Information written here displays a background of African tradition, culture, norms and values, history, geographical and social aspects of South Africa, adventure, health education and experiences.

Four retired South African nurses have written this collection of stories and articles. They include settings of growing up in a township in pre-democratic South Africa; and a peaceful valley where one of the authors grew up. Interwoven in the stories are cultural practices such as a Khosa boy's circumcision ceremony; ukwemula - the girls' twenty-first ceremony; and the process of eight stages in a traditional Zulu wedding ceremony.
