The secretions produced by neurosecretory cells are held responsible for the maturation of gonads and reproductive process in prawns. This original piece of work incorporates the results of the studies including fishery biology, annual reproductive cycle, neuroendocrine system, correlative cyclic changes in the neurosecretory cells and gonads, neurohormonal control of reproduction and effect of vertebrate steroid hormones on the gonads and neurosecretory cells of freshwater prawn, M. malcolmsonii. The results of this study will be helpful for the scientists associated with the breeding biology of freshwater prawns.
