The year is 1800; it is a time of allegiances and betrayal. Virgil Cormack is in Russia, he and the girl have entered the country through the back door. He does not want to be there, he sees no advantage for Great Britain in this venture. Nevertheless, he is a professional and will do what he must do to see the mission through. An old foe emerges much to his surprise. Friends become Enemies as the story twists and turns; it pulls the emotions in all directions. The characters are strong and interlock perfectly within the story.
