An original and disruptive novel that narrates in the first person the rise and fall of a minor civil servant and frustrated writer who, almost by chance and weakness of character, ends up becoming the scapegoat for a major corruption scandal. The narrator, who always defines himself as 'timid', recalls how he was manipulated by politicians, journalists, and even his own family to take the blame for others' mistakes. At the same time, the story becomes entangled with literary and ghostly figures--Jacinto Huerta, a chaotic writer, and Dr. Macedonio, a kind of delusional double--who cross the line between fiction, plagiarism, and memory. The story oscillates between a prison narrative, family memories marked by a grandfather linked to Francoism and shady dealings, and a meta-literary discourse on what it means to write and survive. All this is told in a confessional tone where reality, hallucination, and writing become blurred.
